Peter Munk Scholarship

The Peter Munk Scholarship represents passion for both education and mining in Canada. Peter Munk was one of Canada’s great entrepreneurs and philanthropists who founded his most significant venture, Barrick Gold Corp., in 1983 and built it into the world’s largest gold mining company in less than twenty-five years. He did so by leading a small team of partners who trusted one another implicitly and who together balanced boldness and prudence in the pursuit of fierce entrepreneurial ambitions. Having come to the industry as an outsider, Munk defied its conventions and implemented an innovative hedging program that helped to propel Barrick to success.

Funded by Barrick Gold Corporation, YMP is pleased to award a $10,000 scholarship to one student enrolled in the 2020/2021 academic year and pursuing a career in mining who embodies Peter Munk’s legacy of perseverance and entrepreneurialism.

In 1000 words, describe your experience with perseverance and overcoming challenges.

Additionally, please use whichever creative medium you wish (music, photography, video, poetry etc.) to portray the overcoming of a challenge.
