Unlike one-time awards, the Franco-Nevada Mining Industry Scholarships, administered by the YMP Scholarship Fund, are renewable scholarships designed to provide sustained, long-term support. Renewable year‑to‑year based on continued enrollment in an eligible program and satisfactory academic performance, Franco-Nevada’s ongoing funding helps cover your education from your first year through to graduation—allowing you to focus on your studies, not financial uncertainty.

Who Should Apply?
We are looking for passionate, driven students accepted to a mining-related program at a Canadian university, college, or trade school.
Disciplines We Support
To be eligible, applicants must be accepted into a post secondary program where mining or mineral extraction is the primary focus of study. Eligible disciplines include:
- Geology
- Geological Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- Mineral Processing
- Metallurgy
- Mining-specific trade programs (general construction trades or unrelated technical programs are not eligible)
Who is Eligible?
Students entering their first year of study in a mining-related program during the 2026/27 academic year are eligible to apply. This includes graduating high school students who have been accepted into an eligible program, as well as current university, college, or trade school students commencing their first year of specialization in an eligible discipline. To be eligible, applicants must provide proof of acceptance into the first year of an approved program for the 2026/27 academic year.
Franco‑Nevada and the YMP Scholarship Fund are committed to supporting a strong, inclusive, and diverse mining industry and welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including women, Indigenous peoples, visible minorities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and persons with disabilities. In furtherance of this commitment, Franco‑Nevada has set a goal of awarding approximately fifty percent of the scholarships to candidates from underrepresented groups. All scholarships are awarded based on merit, academic standing, and demonstrated interest in or commitment to the mining industry.

How to Apply
- Prepare Your Documents: Gather your academic transcripts and CV, and write a 250-word essay. Your essay must address the following:
- Your motivation for pursuing post-secondary education in a mining-related discipline; and
- Your personal and professional goals within the mining industry.
You may also choose to discuss one or more of the following optional topics:
- Relevant diversity‑related experiences, identities, or perspectives that have shaped your life journey, personal outlook, or lived experience, and how these have influenced your academic path, career interests, or approach to the mining industry; and/or
- Financial challenges you have faced in accessing post-secondary education and the potential impact of scholarship support on your educational plans.
Discussion of the optional topics is not required; however, responses may be considered as part of the overall application review.

- Confirmation: You will receive an email confirmation once your application is successfully processed.
Successful applicants will be notified in late summer 2026, with funding commencing in the Fall 2026 academic term.
