Scholarship Details
The Franco-Nevada Scholarships, administered by the YMP Fund, offer two distinct streams to ensure applicants from universities, colleges, and trade schools receive tailored support.
Stream A: University Students
(4 Awards Available)
- Value: $6,000 CAD per year, renewable for the standard duration of the applicable undergraduate program.
Stream B: College & Trade School Students
(3 Awards Available)
- Value: $2,000 CAD per year.
Audience & Eligibility Requirements
We are looking for passionate, driven students accepted to a mining-related program at a Canadian university, college, or trade school.
Applicants must be accepted to a program with a primary academic focus on mining or mineral extraction, including but not limited to:
- Geology
- Geological Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- Mineral Processing
- Metallurgy
- Mining-related trades, where the trade program is explicitly designed for mining or mineral operations
Students entering their first year in a mining-related field during the 2026/27 academic year are eligible to apply. This includes soon-to-be graduating high school seniors and current university students entering a mining program. To qualify, students must provide proof of acceptance into their first year of mining studies for the 2026/27 school year.

Please note that all awards are based on merit and academic standing.
Application Details & Deadline
- Prepare Your Documents: Gather your academic transcripts and CV, and write a 250-word essay. The essay must include:
- Your motivation for pursuing post-secondary education in a mining-related discipline; and
- Your personal and professional goals in the mining industry.
You may also choose to discuss:
- Relevant diversity considerations that shape your perspective or experience; and/or
- Financial challenges encountered in accessing post-secondary education or scholarship opportunities.
Discussion of optional topics is not required but may be considered as part of the overall application review.
